 xFarDic is a comprehensive multilingual dictionary developed using GTK2, wxWidgets, libxml2, under GNU/Linux and relesed under GNU/GPL.
It can be installed and used in different RPM and Debian based distros.
Currently, xFarDic is released with three GPL'd and a non-free word databases. GNU Collaborative International Dictionary of English, English-English GNU/Linux and English-Persian computer and scientific databases are release under the GPL and English-Persian generic DB is non-free, but distributable.
After installation, you can run xFarDic with xfardic command from terminal or run application dialogs. xFarDic is usable under all desktop environments like KDE, GNOME and XFce. xFarDic 0.8 and above binary packages are dependent to libxml2, wxGTK, libnotify, aspell, aspell-en and notification-daemon packages. Debian based distributions users can use the Parsix GNU/Linux apt repository to install xFarDic package without pain. Just add the following line to your /etc/apt/sources.list file:
deb http://parsix.org/packages boss main
And then issue the following command in a root terminal:
# apt-get update && apt-get install xfardic
It is possible to install xFarDic debian package manually. To do so, download xfardic and xfardic-xdb debian packages from the download section and install them and all needed dependencies using the following commands:
# apt-get update && dpkg -i *.deb && apt-get -f install

An updated version of xFarDic multilingual dictionary is available now. This version fixes a problem on the settings window raising after compiling the packages against wxGTK 2.8, fixes the spelling system issue with multi part words and Makefiles have been modified to avoid linking against unnecessary libraries. Also, the old annoying dependency of binary packages to xfardic-xdb virtual package has been finally removed. Download:

An updated version of xFarDic multilingual dictionary is available now. This version fixes an old bug in Process-Word internal function. Source code and binary packages are ready to download. Please note that to be able to install binary packages, you need a dictionary package (GCIDE or GNU/Linux) installed or install it with chosen binary package.

An updated version of xFarDic multilingual dictionary is available now. Highlights: Fixed a bug on data submission to the last box in the Leitner box system, updated make files to enable building against wxGTK 2.8 and some minor code updates. Due to community requests, now you can download Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid) native packages for i386 and amd64 architectures from the project download page. To download packages, click here. Note that these packages are compiled against wxGTK 2.8 and you need to enable Universe repositories to install them.

An updated version of xFarDic multilingual dictionary is available now. Highlights: fixed a bug causing unusual CPU usage in the watcher function, fixed a bug causing loosing the recent leitner box changes on application crashes or so, fixed an old bug preventing translation of words containing space from the leitner box, make the scanner system to use a variable located in memory rather than in the config file and several code clean-ups and minor improvements.
